About Me
Jasmine Marie Reynolds is a writer and hobby coder based in the bay area of California. She studied Communications at Saint Mary's University with a year at Queen's Mary, University of London for Film & Theater. She co-ran a worker-owned café and coffee roaster in Berkeley, CA for several years. After much contemplation during the 2020 lockdown, she decides to rededicate her focus towards writing. She is currently writing a feature-length script and a novel, both in the urban fantasy category akin to Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Charmed. When she's not writing, she's learning coding, obsessing over AMC's Inverview with the Vampire, and reading her way through the classics she missed (or forgot reading the first time).
About The Blog
The body is not yet defined.
This was supposed to be a blog about my transition to tech. I've spent much of my adulthood running away from my calling.
I've called myself a writer for a long time but have rarely ever shared what I create outside of a workshop here and there. So this is me putting myself out there--on my own site, on my own terms. Most of my writings here will center around the research I'm doing for my creative projects:
- how and why religions form
- how the (mainly U.S.) government responds to esoterica and other unexplainable phenomena
- how magic can work like an energy
- all manner of western esoterica
For my own gratification, I am also interested in questions about identity and social justice as they operate on social media; what makes art "radical" or "revolutionary"; critical theory, philosophy, and media analysis.
About the Site
I've always wanted to maintain a blog but could never settle on a platform. I've been on Wordpress and Tumblr and flirted with the idea of a Substack or Ghost newsletter. But all of them, in providing stats, made me feel like an employee put under pressure to provide value to an employer, the platform. I wanted full control of the visual style of my site and not have to worry about what words to use or not use in my posts. And, ultimately, I missed coding. So I chose to build my own space here.
This site is my commitment to having fun on the internet again.
